Madden NFL 2000 is a football video game. The Madden NFL 2000 Gameplay represents the fourth 3D installment in the Madden NFL series and is the second game in the franchise not to feature John Madden exclusively on the cover in North America (the only other instance being the cover of Madden NFL ’95). Most versions of the game prominently display Madden in the foreground, accompanied by a recognizable Barry Sanders in an action graphic in the background.

The European PAL edition, however, features only Dorsey Levens on its cover. The introductory video on the CD-ROM versions includes an unnamed track by rapper Ludacris. This title marks the first Madden game available for the Game Boy Color and is also the first to be released on both PC and Mac platforms.

Additionally, it is the first installment to showcase the newly re-branded Tennessee Titans and the return of the present-day Cleveland Browns, bringing the total number of NFL teams to 31, with 16 teams in the AFC and 15 in the NFC. This balance would not be restored until the Houston Texans joined in the 2002 season.

The Madden NFL gameplay remains largely consistent with earlier Madden titles, specifically ’97, ’98, and ’99. However, it introduces several new features, including a breakable wrap tackle, dive catching, and more.

The Madden NFL 2000 Gameplay offers franchise mode and has seen some improvements, allowing multiple owners to participate in the same season. Unlike its predecessor, Madden NFL 2000 permits users to assign off-season responsibilities to the CPU, such as re-signing or releasing players and drafting future stars. For the second consecutive year, created players cannot be added to their respective teams or to the free agent list. Before commencing a franchise, players must include all 31 coaches from the 1999 NFL season, although this requirement is exclusive to the PC download version.
